The Canon V-8 (released in 1984) is a highly unique home computer built strictly to the original MSX1 standard, rather than a dedicated video game console. While it looks somewhat like a console or an oversized keyboard due to its tiny footprint, it runs the standard MSX-BASIC operating system.

Canon initially entered the market with the larger, feature-rich V-20 and V-10 models. However, severe price wars in the Japanese home computer market forced them to engineer a budget-friendly option. The V-8 was their answer—slashing physical features to make it the smallest MSX computer Canon ever released
